Solid Resources converts results into rare metals resource at Alberta 1 in Spain

Solid Resources’ 100%-owned Alberta 1 polymetallic project is located in NW Spain. The project lies on 3,690 hectares of prime exploration land. In the past, tin mining took place on the northern part of the project. Alberta 1 is ideally situated for infrastructure, just 25 km east of the port city of Pontevedra and the nearby port of Vigo, in the pro-mining region of Galicia. Alberta 1 also has good access roads, is located near a workforce, has available water and a power line crossing the property.

The projects six exploration prospects comprise an 11 km strike length running roughly north-south, and include Presqueiras, Doade-Correa, Coto-Tocayo, Acebedo, Rubillon and Taboazas.Exploration work by Solid Resources since 2003 has found that the host rock in these areas contains numerous pegmatite dykes many rich with tin, tantalum, lithium, niobium, rubidium, cesium and feldspar.

Tantalum in particular has seen a 150% increase in price since 2009 after shortages caused by restrictions imposed on mining in conflict countries such as the DRC.

In total, Solid has completed 48 drill holes on the project, including 31 completed in 2011. Assays have confirmed significant grades of tin, tantalum, lithium and niobium. In October 2011, the company completed two mineral resource estimates, one for each of the Presqueiras and Taboazas deposits.

The Presqueiras resource estimate included 1.6 Mt measured and indicated plus inferred resources of another 4 Mt.This zone contains a series of horizontally lying dykes on a relatively flat area and appears to be ideal for low-cost open pit mining.

Recent step out drilling at Presqueiras has opened up large new mineralized areas in the zone. For example, drill hole S0-11-12 returned 11.75 metres grading 124 g/t Ta2O5, 1 kg/t Sn, 1.15% Li2O and 101 g/t Nb2O5. This hole was followed up by drill holes 30 and 31, which confirmed the continuity of the mineralization for a further 94 metres into an area of Presqueiras not previously known to be mineralized. The known area of mineralization in the Presqueiras zone measures 750 m x 350 m, and remains open to the north (100 m) and east (200 m), and is completely open to the south.
Presqueiras 43-101 resource estimateDrilling at the southern end of the Alberta 1 project in the Taboazas zone has yielded similarly encouraging results. Drill hole SO-11-26 had 5 mineralized zones down hole including 11 metres grading 168 g/t Ta2O5, 838 g/t Sn, 1.31% Li2O and 129 g/t Ni2O5. This zone measures 400 m by 150 m.

Based on seven drill holes, the company has completed a resource estimate on the Taboazas zone including 200 Kt indicated plus 4 Mt inferred resources.

This resource estimate is particularly encouraging because its grades are higher than those at the past producing Presqueiras zone to the north. Additionally, like Presqueiras, Taboazas remains open in multiple directions.

Between the Presqueiras and Taboazas zones lie approximately 10 km of known mineralized zones. The include Rubillon, Acebedo, Coto-Tocayo and Correa.  Solid anticipates that Presqueiras and Taboazas alone will comprise less than 10% of the project’s total potential size. Scout drilling has returned favourable and consistent results, with many high-grade mineralized dykes of up to 12.8 metres that are almost at surface level.Taboazas 43-101 resource estimate

Exploration has been instrumental in demonstrating the initial economic potential of the Alberta 1 project. With future drilling in 2012 the company has an exploration target south of Presqueiras of 50,000,000 tonnes. Also in 2012, Solid Resources will initiate a new phase of drilling that will contribute to a Preliminary Economic Assessment.
