Rock Tech Lithium (RCK:TSXV) recently announced an initial 43-101 compliant indicated and inferred lithium resource at its 100%-owned Georgia Lake project.
Positioned in a region of Ontario with a rich mining history, Georgia Lake lies just 145 kilometres northeast of the city of Thunder Bay and about 20 kilometres south of the town of Beardmore.
The project’s infrastructure includes a major highway, road access, power and an abundance of water.
The 100-per-cent-owned Georgia Lake project consists of multiple claim blocks comprising 11,481 hectares.
These include the Nama Creek and Conway blocks, which are the subject of Rock Tech’s initial 43-101 mineral resource estimate.
During the late 1950s, some 200 drill holes totalling 33,000 metres were completed at Georgia Lake, resulting in a historic, non-compliant resource estimate of 9.8-million tonnes with grades of 1.18% lithium oxide
Rock Tech has now completed Phase One of its own drill program with 47 new holes totaling more than 8,000-metres consisting of confirmation and step out drill holes at the Nama Creek and parts of the Conway claim blocks.
Aided by the historic drill data, three-dimensional modeling, environmental baseline studies and bulk sampling Caracle Creek International Consulting has converted nearly 5.5 million tonnes of historic resource to NI 43-101 compliant resource of 6.72-million tonnes.
This includes 2.36 million tonnes indicated grading 1.17% lithium oxide, plus another 4.36 million tonnes at 1.08% lithium oxide in the inferred category.
Highlights from the recent Nama Creek drill program include 1.17% lithium oxide over 16 metres [NC11-04] and 1.32% Li2O over 9 metres [NC11-01].
Nama Creek has been drilled to a maximum depth of 200-metres with mineralization remaining open at depth.
Metallurgical studies conducted on the resources from the Nama Creek claim block have yielded excellent results including a spodumene concentrate containing 6.2% lithium oxide, recovery rates of nearly 76% using heavy liquid separation and more than 81% using floatation, and lithium carbonate of 99.96% to 99.988% purity, far exceeding the minimum battery-grade requirement of 99.5%.
The 2011 drill program has also shown excellent assay results from the Conway and Aumacho Claim Blocks.
Drilling at Conway has intercepted grades as high as 1.21% lithium oxide over 10.9 metres [CW11-03], including 1.62% Li2O over 5 metres.
Assays have also shown indications of rare and industrial metals including beryllium, rubidium, cesium and niobium.
At the Aumacho claim block, located approximately 10 km to the south, 2011 drilling has been similarly encouraging, with significant lithium, but also cesium and rubidium.
Drill hole AM10-02 intersected 4.33 metres grading 1.06% Li2O, 435 g/t cesium oxide, 155 g/t niobium oxide, 117 g/t tantalum oxide and 2,211 g/t rubidium oxide.
To date, Rock Tech Lithium has confirmed 5.5 million tonnes or 56% of its historic 9.8 million tonne resource.
The company has also added nearly 1.2 million tonnes of new resources. The company has commenced its 2011-2012 drill programs, including 10,000 metres of step out and confirmatory drilling.
Through 2012, Rock Tech expects to confirm the remaining 4.3 million tonne historic resources.
Look for an updated NI-43-101 resource by Q1 2012 and a second updated resource by Q3 2012. Additionally, Rock Teck Lithium will initiate a Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) in February 2012, with results expected by August 2012.
