The Critical Metals Report: The United States Department of Defense named manganese a strategic metal 30 years ago, but China still dominates the global production of electrolytic manganese (EMM) with 98% of production. What are the safety and economic development implications of a lack of a domestic supply in the U.S.?
Peter Zhang: There really is no electrolytic manganese metals production in U.S. or anywhere outside China except for a small percentage from South Africa. We don’t produce even a single ounce in North America. Read more

We have issues with the price sometimes, but not with demand. We can sell everything that we have.” Read more

Electrolytic Manganese – More Than Meets The Eye
July, 21/11
Historically, Electrolytic Manganese Metal (EMM) held a few basic critical and strategic uses, primarily in the alloying of Steel, Stainless Steel and Aluminum to name a few. Back in 1987 the US Gov’t classified Manganese as a strategic metal and it was even considered strategic by the Dept. of Defense, (DOD) as far back as 1918. Not hard to understand when Manganese has no substitute metals in its many past steel applications and has itself (EMM) become a substitute for other more expensive metals in certain alloys thanks to new and innovative metallurgical discoveries. American Manganese jumps into 2011 on track for PFS & pilot plant

Larry Reaugh
President & CEO
American Manganese (TSXV: AMY) is exploring for a metal that although on the radar of few investors, is the fourth most traded metal in the world, manganese. In particular, AMY’s huge deposit of manganese is ideally suited to producing electrolytic manganese, 97% of which is produced by China. Today there are no mines in the US producing this metal, in spite of the fact that it is essential for steel making and is considered a strategic metal by governments around the world. Larry Reaugh was one of the first miners into the molybdenum field, before most investors had ever heard of it. He intends to be at the front of the pack again with his Artillery Peak manganese deposit, the largest in southwestern US.
